Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) Basics
Most of a marketing budget usually goes toward driving traffic - SEO, ads, social media. But how much of that traffic actually converts into an action - a purchase, a form fill, a call - often gets overlooked. Conversion rate optimization (CRO) fills exactly that gap.
1. Data First, Then Changes
Instead of changing a page because you think it'll "look better," look at data showing what users actually do on it: heatmaps, session recordings, funnel analysis. Changes made without seeing where users get stuck or leave tend to stay guesswork.
2. Simplify Your Forms
Every extra field in a form has the potential to lower completion rate. Remove fields that aren't truly necessary - you can always collect that information later, in a sales conversation.
3. Make Trust Signals Visible
Trust elements like customer reviews, security badges, and return policy should be visible especially on pages close to the decision moment - cart, checkout, forms. Missing these signals increases last-minute abandonment.
4. Validate Assumptions with A/B Testing
Assumptions like "this button color gets more clicks" shouldn't go live without being tested against real traffic. A/B tests reveal which change actually improves conversion and which was just an opinion.
5. Prioritize the Mobile Experience
If most of your traffic comes from mobile devices, it makes sense to start CRO work with the mobile experience first. A form that looks fine on desktop can become unusable on mobile.
Conclusion
CRO is a discipline that increases the value of the traffic you already have, and it usually delivers results faster than acquiring new traffic. If you'd like to review your conversion funnel together, check out our analytics & reporting service.
